CONSISTORY FOR THE CREATION OF CARDINALS TO MEET 22 FEBRUARY 2014

The director of the Holy See Press Office, Fr. Federico Lombardi S.J., announced today that
the Pope has announced his intention to convoke a Consistory for the creation of new cardinals on the occasion of the Feast of the Cathedral of St. Peter, 22 February. Pope Francis has decided to communicate his decision to convoke February's Consistory in advance in order to facilitate the planning of other meetings involving the participation of cardinals from different parts of the world.

Fr. Lombardi also said “Indeed, it is foreseen that the Pope, like his predecessors on other occasions, intends for the Consistory to be preceded by a meeting of the College of Cardinals.--- scheduled for the 17 and 18 February.

Prior to that, the 'Council of Cardinals' (the so-called 'Eight Cardinals'), will meet while after the Consistory, on 24 and 25 February, there will be the meeting of the Synod Council.

Fr. Lombardi also noted: “The next meeting of the Council of Cardinals for economic and organisational matters of the Holy See (the so-called 'Council of Fifteen') is expected to be scheduled as in previous years for the month of February, probably during the preceding week”.

All Souls Day, Saturday November 2nd Mass at Saint Bridget's

On Saturday, November 2nd Mass will be celebrated at Saint Bridget Chapel in the Field at noon and there will be a Book of Remembrance in the Narthex.

All Souls‘ Day by William Bouguereau
                                                               (Public Domain: Wikipedia)

As Father Krempa reminds us,

All Souls Day is a reflective way to to remember and and to pray for those who have left this earth and have gone before the Lord. Our prayer for those who have died is a way of showing gratitude to our beloved dead and is also a way of seeking reconciliation with those whom we have been distant when they were with us. Remembering and giving thanks to those who have died is one of the many graces of the month of November.

International Commission on English in the Liturgy Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Pope received the members of the Commission in audience today. He remarked that the fruits of their labors “have not only helped to form the prayer of countless Catholics, but have also contributed to the understanding of the faith, the exercise of the common priesthood and the renewal of the Church’s missionary outreach, all themes central to the teaching of the Council.... by enabling the vast numbers of the Catholic faithful throughout the world to pray in a common language [the commission] … has helped to foster the Church’s unity in faith and sacramental communion. That unity and communion, which has its origin in the Blessed Trinity, is one which constantly reconciles and enhances the richness of diversity” concluded the Holy Father, imparting his Apostolic Blessing to those present.

According to the Vatican Information Service: "The International Commission on English in the Liturgy was founded as part of the implementation of the liturgical renewal called for by the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Divine Liturgy. Over the past fifty years, the Commission has carried out the enormous task of providing English translations of the texts of the liturgy, and has also contributed to the study, understanding and appropriation of the Church’s sacramental and euchological tradition."

World Mission Sunday October 20th

On World Mission Sunday, we are invited to “do good on earth,”  from the words of St. Therese of Lisieux, co-patron of the Missions, by putting our faith into action in support of the work of missionaries — like Sister Clara who rescues girls from human trafficking in India, giving them a loving home. Your prayers and generous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday support the tireless work of so many priests, religious and lay leaders around the world as they offer practical, emotional and spiritual care to communities, children and families in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances.
